- In this video we are going to see about different types of scanners and their features. First type we are going to see is flatbed book scanners. Flatbed scanners are very affordable. Normally they do not have scanning area till the edge. Thus, in both positions of scanning, they will have problem in scanning a bound book. If two pages are scanned together, they'll curvature in the centre will cause problem. If one page is scanned, then frame from the edge will hide some part of the text. Second type of flatbed scanner is often referred to as, book scanner. Flatbed books scanner have scanning glass till the edge. This enables to flatten the page of the book on the scanning by placing spine of the open book on edge of the scanner. It takes 30 to 40 seconds to scan one page. In two to three hours, 200 to 250 pages can be scanned. Next we are going to see about ADF scanners, that is, automatic document feeder scanner. It comes in the range of 400 to 1000 USD. Need to cut the spine of the book and need to put stack of all pages in right sequence. It picks one page at a time and scans the whole stack by itself. A full duplex ADF scanner would scan both sides of the page simultaneously. It has the capacity of scanning 40 to 60 pages per minute. Next we are going to see about camera scanners. In this scanner, you have to place the open book under the scanning arm. It will click the photo of page's. Curvature in the centre of the open book between two pages may cause problem as the corner text may not get scanned properly. Each page has to be turned manually for each scan. Heavy duty scanners, no need to cut the spine of the book for using such scanners. It's an excellent option for mass digitization requirements. Have the capacity of scanning 1500 to 2000 pages per hour. Comes in the range of USD 100,OO0, 220,000. Trained human resources would be required to use this machine. Thank you for watching this video.
